Assassin's Creed Unveils Unexpected Attack on Titan Crossover for Holiday Season
In a bizarre collaboration that breaks traditional expectations, Ubisoft has announced an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including free extra story content for Shadows players.
Mysterious Mission Disclosed
According to the authorized statement, "An unusual confrontation leads heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where rumors of forbidden ceremonies and terrifying transformations reverberate through the shadows." The storyline features a "unusually garbed woman named Ada" who tasks the characters with venturing into the Gemstone Grotto—a important location from Attack on Titan—to save her ally from a clandestine sect.
The adventure focuses on "strange experiments and a terrifying foe" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.
Recognizable Places and Transformations
The teaser features the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The preview finishes with a powerful moment showing a character, likely the hostage, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Special Rewards and Extra Content
Players who finish the quest will acquire an special katana together with several objects hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-based outfit for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Special implements
- Survey Corps steed
Latest Free Story Update
This patch also brings the game's newest free story addition, titled "A Puzzlement." This lighthearted mission teams Naoe and Yasuke as they trade distinctive skills: Naoe reveals a performative variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also includes a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually clarify some unanswered questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Japanese Animation Partnerships
This represents hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime franchises. The series previously showcased a 2020 cross-promotional story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that obviously nodded to the popular series One-Punch Man.
