On his initial day in office, Zohran Mamdani pledged to “reinvent” America's largest city, promising “a different age” and an ambitious beginning to his administration.

An Unprecedented Figure

The young figure, who just a year ago remained a virtually unknown state assemblyman, has become the city's first mayor born in Africa. He also made history by being the inaugural to be take the oath of office using the Qur'an.
